The new Vodafone headquarters in Porto, placed at the intersection of Avenida da Boavista with Rua Correia de Sá almost in front of Colégio do Rosário, has brought a new three-dimensional shape to the city, which stands for its bold aesthetic, as an irregular concrete volume cut by white geometric lines that seem to draw some juxtaposed lozenge shapes, some of which are turned into huge windows, with a futuristic look that seems to come out of some science fiction movie.
Designed by the architects José António Barbosa and Pedro Guimarães (Barbosa & Guimarães), this project appears as a new architectural landmark that is worth seeing and will definitely become emblematic in town. Nested among several traditional buildings, that now have become “common”, it starts making us finding it strange, catching our attention and making us wondering if that’s a modern museum, but eventually conquers our heart by its strangely pleasant shape.
